Succession: Rebellion

"People are born with a set path before them. They have no choice but to follow it. A farmer who chooses to become a merchant isn't a merchant. He is a farmer-turned-merchant. Likewise, a man born as a slave remains a slave, even when freed," Sten told the elf impassively.

He watched them go, his expression unchanging. He would soon depart to look for his sword in the battlefield where he lost it. Without it, he wasn't himself.

Nebi raised one of his eyebrows at Nix, frowning a bit before continuing, "A slave-master relationship? I'm surprised you're still together. Slaves don't generally like their master former or not."

Kegan

Kegan shook his head in slight disgust before he began to walk away. "Well then, good day."

But the Half-Elf stopped in place right as he neared the exit of the tent. "You're a disgusting person, you know that?"

"So....should be interesting, right? Traveling across the Empire as we look for the greatest threats to it." Savina replied as she made the situation sound much more dramatic then it actually was.

Brighe

Brighe bit her lip as she stopped herself from swearing though, she put Atiya on the ground before replying. "Atiya we can't take care of a puppy right now. Why don't we get you a doll?"

Atiya

Atiya pouted but decided not to protest. Her eyes flickered over to a small stand were a middle-aged man was selling all sorts of children's toys.

"Can we get something from over there?" she asked, pointing over at the stand.

Sten frowned as the elf proceeded to insult him. Normally, he might have walked away, but the elf was insulting the Qun. He turned to the elf.

"I would hardly call the Qun disgusting, elf," Sten told him, a hint of anger within his voice. He stood imposing indeed, far taller and more muscular than any normal human or elf. He continued, "It is the way of the world."

Kegan

"Sorry if I don't believe in a religion that condemns people just because they were born into a certain kind of situation. Not only is it disgusting, it's wrong. Plenty of people have been born into one spot of their life, and then have grown above their positions. They defied the ways of the Qun." Kegan replied, not a trace of fear in his eyes as he looked at the Qunari.

"Your philosophy is not only immoral, it's flawed."

Brighe

Brighe sighed in relief at Atiya's quickly changing mind. "Of course we can, lets go." Brighe replied as she grabbed onto Atiya's small hand and led the girl over to the stand.

He nodded respectfully at the elf, "You reveal yourself as a warrior."

"When a person is born, it is custom among my people to examine them at birth and evaluate them as children. They are then placed in the role they are best suited for," Sten stated before pausing thoughtfully, "There is no slavery, however. I had assumed that your people made people best suited for slavery slaves. I had forgotten that your people do not accept the Qun."

Atiya, Shopkeeper

"Hello Ma'am." the shopkeeper greeted as he saw Brighe and Atiya walk over to his stand. He smiled brightly at the little girl and began to search for something suitable for the child. He eventually produced a small doll for Atiya. He crouched down and held it for her to see.

"I want it!" Aitya immediately cried upon seeing it, before the shopkeeper could speak. The older man chuckled at Atiya's eagerness.

"My, certainly enthusiastic, aren't you, little one? I'm sure I can work out a deal with your mother," the shopkeeper stood back up and faced Brighe.

"That'll be ten gold pieces for the doll, Miss. I certainly hope your daughter enjoys it."

Kegan

"No. Gaboria follows the equally flawed system of randomly throwing a select few into power, and a select few into slavery based on how they were born. Everyone in the middle is stuck with scrambling out of the way of those in power." Kegan answered as he studied the Qunari. At the revelation that they didn't have slaves, Kegan couldn't help but admit that at least the Qunari was at least doing something better then the Gaborians.

Brighe

"Yes, thank you very much." Brighe replied as she paid the man. The Elf quickly accepted the Doll and passed it to Atiya while picking the little Girl up. Brighe was about to walk out of the tent when she paused in place. "Oh, I was wondering, do you know where I could find a decent map of the Empire?"

Nix
"I rarely do what people expect me too." Nix said with a grin. "And my time serving Gaita was relaxing to say the least." He joked. There was a time when he did resent Gaita and her family, but that was washed away quickly by the kindness which the family had treated him with. "At what good would holding on to anger bring? " He asked. "All it would do is fester until, and sometimes long after, some form of retribution is found."

Shopkeeper

Atiya gave a cheer and eagerly accepted the doll. The shopkeeper paused in thought before responding.

"There's a map shop on the other side of the street. They're expensive, but some of the best maps you'll find in the city."

"Ah," Sten noted, grimacing at the flawed system that the elf described and realizing how similar he made the Qun sound to that. He spoke, "Your language is imprecise. I meant that someone is born with a certain path, but it is not determined by parentage. The Qunari do not declare a child's path lightly. He or she requires careful study throughout childhood."

He paused thoughtfully, "You are a warrior, but you pretend not to be. Why?"

Kegan

Kegan chuckled to himself as he realized that the Qunari had a point. Though after the other question had been asked in return, Kegan's smile turned oddly knowing and bitter. "The same reason anyone hides who they are. Because I need to be something else besides a warrior now, to protect what I love." Kegan replied before quickly turning around and walking out of the tent.

Brighe

"Ah, thank you." Brighe replied, a bit frustrated with the news as she walked out of the shop with Atiya in her arms.

Atiya

"Thank you, Aunte Brighe!" Atiya said, kissing her as she delightfully played with the doll.

"You cannot be something else. You remain a warrior," Sten told him solemnly, frowning a bit, "Right now, you are simply a warrior pretending not to be a warrior. Anyone can see that or are humans blind as well as stupid?"

(Gotta goto bed. Good night guys.)

Kegan/Brighe

Kegan shook his head, amused with the Qunari. "You really are obstinate.... Enjoy your freedom." He replied while scanning the market for Rein. He noticed her and Syrien standing by a horse and carriage together.

As Kegan arrived, Brighe and Atiya returned together as well.

"Well I suppose we should leave now." Brighe commented after noticing that Kegan was here.

Rein, Atiya, Syrien

"I got a new doll!" Atiya declared proudly, showing it to Kegan. Rein sighed with relief once he arrived.

"There you are! About time, too. I was getting worried sick about you."

(Why did it need to be Sten! I can't have him in my party because he creeps me out too much!)

(LOL. I see you've played Dragon Age as well. And what do you mean he's creepy? He's awesome!)

"Hmm.... That's a lot more wise than I'd expect from someone our age," Nebi noted with a shrug. He looked distant, "Personally, I hate slavery. I will end it in this Empire."

Sten nodded at the man before frowning a little. He'd hate to ask for help, but he needed to know where his battlefield was. He spoke, "Do you know where the plains of Ka'Hirol are? It is important that I return there."

(I dunno, he just always says stuff like that he murdered some people so casually like he was just out to get the milk when he went all vigilante justice. Mainly it's just his picture. It's just him looking displeased with his red eyes of vengeance.)

"Yes," Mab said without hesitation. "It's what I love doing. When I first became Chris's apprentice I was only doing it because my parents didn't want me going into politics, but now I enjoy my job."

She could see the gate ahead but it was still a little away. "Why do you ask?"

Carlisle

"I was just wondering..." Carlisle lied.

The Doctor stopped as they got closer to the gate, motioning for Mab to do the same. "We cannot just waltz through the gate. We'll never be able to get through..." He informed her while studying the wall around them. "We can climb up right there, it's only about two hundred feet high over there, easily the lowest point of the wall for miles." Carlisle stated as he pointed towards a slightly damaged part of the wall.

Kegan/Brighe

"Who's he?" Brighe asked as she handed Atiya over to Syrien.

"One of the Slaves....." Kegan informed everyone before looking back at Sten. The Qunari couldn't help but gain the attention of almost everyone in the market place. And that was the last thing Kegan needed at this point. "Unfortunately, no. We don't have a map, and we aren't familiar with this province very much." Kegan replied shortly.

"Nephew, we need to go now." Brighe cut him off after hearing some of the people whispering, obviously about the giant Slave.

Katie

Almost twenty minutes after she had stomped away, Katie eventually returned back to where Nell and C.C. were walking. "Hey guys..."

Mab indicated for him to proceed first with a smile.

"I was thinking of going over it in the first place."

"Yes Katie," Nell asked. His ears twitched when she came over, already hearing her footsteps.

Syrien, Rein

"Yes, let's leave." Syrien agreed. He handed Atiya off to Rein, who proceeded to get inside the carriage. Syrien climbed to the top of the carriage and took the reins of the horses. He waited for Kegan and Brighe to get in, which he hoped they would do soon. Off in the distance, Syrien noticed some city guards heading their way, no doubt drawn by the large hulkin Qunari.

C.C.

"Glad you could join us. We're about to leave." C.C. informed Katie.

"Oh, and don't worry, I promise I won't try to tease you...much." she added with a smirk.

(Ah. Ok. Fixed)
Nix
"Wisdom comes to those who can learn from years past. But that doesn't mean it has to be your own years." Nix explained. "I traveled a lot when I was younger and learned a great deal." Nix looked back at the capital, which was rapidly sinking into the horizon.

(Um, they're heading away from the capital, Hogaki. Down south for the rebellion.)

"That's true. It's nice to be around someone that isn't either homocidal, in heat, or power-mad," Nebi noted, remembering the people he was around when he was competing for the Throne."

He smiled a little, "Your girlfriend doesn't talk much, does she?"

"It is important that I reach Ka'Hirol," the Qunari intoned, gripping the elf's shoulder with one of his huge hands. His tone was almost... pleading. He continued, "I need to reclaim my sword or I shall never be able to return to my homeland."
