Peace or Not (Avatar Roleplay)

"I don't think we planned on coming to the beach," said Toph. "We were just gonna eat and have fun, remember?" She began walking out of the water, wringing her hair out as best she could. "We'll just have to sit and let the sun dry us off."

"Sounds good. Not like anyone was expecting us at the palace," Sokka told her with a shrug as he followed her. He grinned a little as he sat near where they left their clothes and laid down, "Sometimes, it's nice to not be royalty or the Avatar. We have a lot more free time than poor Aang and Angry Jerk."

"Hey, if they wanna be saviors and rulers, that's their decision," said Toph, good natured.

She sat next to him and stretched her arms. The sand was warm, and the sun was quickly drying her. It felt nice, and she felt almost sleepy. She lay back and made herself comfortable.

"More fun for us," Sokka finished, closing his eyes eyes. The Sun felt pleasantly warm on his skin rather than hott now. He closed his eyes. He didn't really get enough sleep lat night anyway.

"A nap would be really nice right now," said Toph, enjoying how warm the sun was, and how soothing the waves sounded, as she lay on the sand. "You've sounded a little tired today, Snoozles. Maybe you should live up to your nickname and take a rest."

"Maybe I should," Sokka told her with a yawn, grinning a little at her, "Maybe for just a few minutes. Katara and Aang will find us eventually, right?"

"They should. It's not like we're going to move," said Toph, mirroring his yawn with one of her own. She smiled and patted his arm. "Go ahead. Take a nap. You deserve it." She hesitated, and then turned on her side so that she was almost looking at him. "I never did tell you... You saved my life, last night. Thank you."

Sokka opened his eyes and smiled back before taking a serious expression. He shook his head, "I would never have forgiven myself if I let you die. Besides, you've saved my life more times than one."

He blushed, a little aware of how close their faces were.

"Yeah, well, you've saved me more than once too," she said. "It's just..." She remembered being annoyed that he had never thanked her for saving his life at the Serpent's Pass, all those years ago. But that wasn't fair. He was concerned for Suki, and she had been jealous. She wouldn't hold that against him. "I don't want you to think I don't appreciate it, or you. You should be thanked for doing something like that."

Toph was suddenly aware how close their faces had to be. She could feel his breath touching her cheeks. She blushed a little, but did not move away.

"I never did thank you for all those times, did I? I'm sorry if I seemed like I didn't appreciate it," he told her apologetically. He blushed even more at their proximity. Was it him, or did he seem to move closer? Or did she? He was n't sure.

"That's okay," she said, smiling. "Really, you don't help someone just to get thanked. You do it 'cause you care about them. Hey, as long as you were still around, I was okay."

Her heart was pounding. They were so close... What was going to happen?

"Yeah. Same here, only with you," Sokka joked, starting at her eyes. They were beautiful, despite the fact that they didn't work. They were an unique glassy green, something he hadn't seen anywhere else.

His heart felt like it was going to burst. He didn't know what to do about how close their faces were. What would Toph want to do? What did he want?

Before he could form a solution, the space between them closed and his eyes widened. Was it him or her that did it?

Toph jolted a little. Who had been moving, him or her? She didn't much know. She could hear and feel his racing heart. She sighed, and decided to take a chance.

"Look, if you are gonna kiss me, do it already."

"Um, okay," Sokka told her, feeling rather dumb and strangely, charged from the slight comment. He nodded and kissed her, this time on purpose. What was life without taking chances?

She was somewhat surprised that he did kiss her. She thought he would get nervous and back away. But he did kiss her.

And it was nice.

Toph returned his kiss as best she could. She wasn't used to this sort of thing, but as a headstrong sort of person she was not about to not try.

Sokka blushed even more as she kissed back. He was kind of expecting her to get mad and punch him for trying this. Still, this was a pleasant surprise for once. He could tell she was new with this, but he wasn't going to say anything. It was still nice. Very nice.

He eventually pulled away with a goofy grin on his face, "Wow."

"Wow?" Toph was blushing, and she looked half between wanting to punch him and kiss him again. "Is that a good wow, or are you just making fun of me?"

"Um, I think it's pretty obvious that it's a good wow," Sokka told her immediately, catching her tone. He knew that this was one of the things that Toph was less than confident about, not that he would point it out.

"Oh." Toph blushed again, and then she smiled. She seemed, and felt, more like herself then. "Good."

"I'd say," Sokka teased with a laugh. He scratched the back of his head, "I'm really glad we're not saviors or rulers right now. This would be scandalous."

"Since when did we care what people think?" she said. "I liked kissing you. It wouldn't matter if we were saviors or rulers. I'd do it anyway."

"Well, that's good to know. I'll kiss you back then," Sokka told her with a grin, "So... What now?"

Now, he sounded nervous, unsure what she was going to say.

"Now what?" she said. She scratched her cheek. "Do you mean what are we now? Where to do we go from here? I don't know. That's kind of up to you, isn't it?"

"Oh," Sokka said, feeling a little stupid, "I guess, I'd like to go out. My actions seem to say that I'd really like that."

"I'd really like that too," said Toph, smiling again. She slugged him in the arm, and added, "Don't forget. That's how I show affection too."
