| Carter let Caresa run past him, tears running down her face. He closed his eyes, enjoying the new found silence and strolled along the sidewalk until he heard someone yell at him.
"Where are you going?"
He turned, annoyed, and saw that it was Amanda. She was looking at him with concern deep in her eyes. Carter didn't like that.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine," he replied, putting as much contempt in his voice as was possible. This chick just need to stay away from him. "You can go back to class now," he said, voice now mocking. He didn't need everyone hovering over him today. If he could just get home (preferably somewhere else, though) and just ignore the world, that would be great. Some more sleep would be nice, too. That stupid cop that somehow knew his parents could have just let him some homeless kid in a tunnel for the day. If she had, then Carter wouldn't be running out of the school again. He decided right then that he was going to blame everything on her. | |

| Amanda sighed, and looked at the ground for a second.
"Do you need a ride home?" she asked. "I promise, I'll leave you alone and whatever afterwards. It just looks like..." she cut off for a second, trying to figure out how to word her thoughts. "You'd need a ride home. Or somewhere else."
She had her Aunt's car. Carter was different today, and it looked like he needed sleep and, well, it looked like he needed a lot of things today. It was an ignore-the-world sort of day for him. She never understood how people could ever manage to do that. The world always came crashing back into her every time she tried, even if whatever aspect she was trying to avoid wasn't as big as a gang fight or being a +Anima. | |

| Antha slipped into her next class a little after the bell, but the teacher didn't notice. She was glad. She couldn't afford to get yelled at. Her mind was still whirling from what happened in the hallway before. How close she came to everyone seeing.
She began to doodle monkies again, only half paying attention to the class. | |

| "Will you leave me alone if I don't take a ride from you? I mean, what are you even doing here? Don't you actually care about school and want to graduate?" Carter knew he needed a ride... somewhere, he just didn't know where, and he didn't want to be around anyone.
Another part of Carter's mind, buried way back where he actually had a conscious, told him that he probably didn't want to hurt or yell at Amanda, so he was specifically avoiding her. The part of his mind without a conscious told him that he was just sick of being around girls and their... girl drama.
You know that's not true. Amanda hasn't brought you any issues, other than the ones you've given yourself. She isn't even that bad... when she's not being overly 'helpful.'
If Carter could physically remove his thoughts from his head, he would.
"I just... I have to go," he said, stalking off. | |

| Amanda stared at the ground again and shrugged. Of course she cared. That was her supposed life. But she was beginning to feel less like she cared at the moment, at least with Carter here, even in his obviously avoiding state, she didn't care much for school. She could tell that he was thinking other things as he started off again.
"Carter... seriously... just take the ride. I won't even talk. I... you shouldn't be just out here walking around like that right now. Please," she said.
------------- Caresa was off school grounds now, tears blurring her vision, but she kept on going, even blindly. She didn't even know where she was going, but she just needed to be away for now. | |

| "Carter... seriously... just take the ride. I won't even talk. I... you shouldn't be just out here walking around like that right now. Please."
"I don't need a fricking ride! Will you just get that through your fricking head?! I don't care if I shouldn't be out here! I obviously am! I don't care if I shouldn't be walking around! Because I'm doing that, too! Just leave. I'm not going to go with you, just accept that!" Carter yelled.
He glanced up at the sky which was black as his mood. It just seemed to accentuate that he really shouldn't be out there. He started walking away again, hoping that Amanda had enough sense in her to leave him alone. ----- Kyrine stared out of the window of her second hour class. She had English, and as a result, wasn't paying very much attention to the teacher. As she watched, black clouds rolled across the sky, obscuring any light that had been there before. | |

| Amanda stared at the ground, taking Carter's yelling and then glanced up at the sky. What was with all this rain and storms the past few days? It was... almost eerie.
"Your loss," she said, plainly, before turning around and heading back in the direction of the school. She walked slowly, vainly hoping he might change his mind. And as she walked, a sudden blue strike of lightning flashed, fast, blinding and close to the ground. Following suit, was long, roaring crack of thunder in the sky. She was nearing the doors as little drops began to fall sporadically. More lightning, more thunder... the lights inside the school flickered.
Then, a downpour. Rain came down like a waterfall... ------------------------ Caresa huddled in the elementary school's playground, hiding in a tunnel like Carter had less than an hour before, only in a different place. A storm had began right around her, and water was now sneaking into her sanctuary. She didn't care right now, even though the storm was deafening and wild, even within its first few moments. It was the kind of storm that had driven her to Aidan's house in the summers of late elementary school, her last years in this nostalgic place... the kind of storm that would cancel school for a few hours, if not for class already being started. She swallowed, and curled farther into a ball in the tunnel. It stung on her stomach. She nervously touched the inside of her shirt, her bandages, and felt the wetness there. Red was on her fingertips. She cringed. She didn't want to bleed in this place, so she crawled out of the tunnel. Rain soaked her immediately, and she continued her trek to anywhere... | |

| Carter continued walking, ignoring the thunder and lighting around him. He was doing a pretty good job of ignoring the rain as well, until it started pouring. He continued to trudge on, hoping that he could find somewhere to crash soon.
As much as he hated to admit it, Carter knew that he should probably go home if he wanted to rest in this storm. He sighed, shaking his already sodden hair out of his eyes as he turned in the direction of his house. ----- Kyrine noticed how quickly the thunder and lightning started. She was getting a little freaked out at how close it was to the ground, but said nothing until the lights flickered. She wasn't a huge fan of thunder storms unless she knew she was close to home, which she most definitely was not.
Glancing around the classroom, Kyrine noted that her teacher was trying to calm down the class and tell them not to worry. | |

| Amanda looked over her shoulder at Carter one more time, before returning to the school. There was no way to hide her class cutting now, having very apparently been out in the rain. She bit her lip, trying to come up with an excuse. She was very close to her classroom when the lights flickered again, turning on and off... and then, it went dark. Only whatever minimal light that managed to come from the outside filtered in. She stood outside the door of her class, peering into the tiny window, as thunder cracked above them. | |

| Kyrine's class went into a complete uproar as the lights flickered again, then went out. The teacher tried in vain to keep order in the classroom, but it was filled with irrational teenagers. Kyrine herself was terrified. Not only was she a couple miles from her house-- she was probably stuck at school with the power being out. No power meant no contact with anyone outside of the school.
"Class! This is enough!" Mr. Jenkins, their very young teacher, shouted. "You're in high school! Now, I want you to stop acting like 5 year olds and please move the desks to the side farthest away from the windows.
Kyrine and her classmates immediately followed their instructions. None of them had ever heard Mr. Jenkins yell like that before. As she pushed her desk away from the window, Kyrine noticed that she felt her respect for this young English teacher rise. He had actually brought order back into a terror-struck class. | |

| Amanda pushed open the door, trying to blend in with the other students by pushing desks closer to the wall away from the window. She'd heard the teacher yell; this guy couldn't even be thirteen years out of high school, and he had actually gotten the kids to listen to him. It was impressive. Now she could only hope he wouldn't do anything about her being late to class... | |

| Kyrine noticed one of the few upperclassmen in her English class walk into the room. Kyrine was pretty sure her name was Amanda. This was an advanced class, so it made sense that she was in there, but mostly freshman took the class.
Her eye flickered over to Mr. Jenkins, wondering if he noticed Amanda walk in late, thoroughly soaked. He didn't notice until there was a trail of water around the dark room.
"Amanda. Please tell me why you seem to have been enjoying yourself outside while class was going on, before the lights went out."
Kyrine felt bad for her. Not only was she soaked, she was also called to the center of attention by Mr. Jenkins, who seemed to be filling his duty as a teacher, at last.
The class turned to watch the encounter. | |

| Amanda had another English class, one that was geared more toward literature and advanced writing techniques, and that one gave her college credit; this was just a class she'd missed while she'd been taking advanced science and extra mathematics classes to brush up her transcripts earlier in high school. Freshmen didn't bug her anymore.
But being made the center of the class, second time in the day, and only second our, wasn't so great. She stepped up, and tried to think of that "good" answer she'd had earlier. She clutched her wet bag to her, hoping nothing was too damaged... man, this was a bad idea.
"Uh... I'd left something for a class in my car and I had to go out and get it. Sorry..." she said, as convincingly as she possibly could. Carter was still wandering around in that rain... going home would have been a brilliant idea now, except fot the fact that it was still stupid to miss so much school. | |

| "Alright. But try in the future not to be late again. And see me after class," Mr. Jenkins replied, looking only partially convinced. He turned to look at the rest of the class. "All of the desks moved? Good. Now, I would try to teach, but it's a little hard to see with this lack of light."
Kyrine decided to sit down and ignore the storm raging outside, even though she could hear rain pounding against the window. She would try to read a book, but the light was so poor that it wasn't worth the bother. ----- Carter continued on his way home, wondering how much longer it was going to take. He wasn't even to his neighborhood, so it might be a while.
Wonderful. Just freaking wonderful. | |

| Cecilia sat by the very back window of the English room, completely zoned out. She had already done this lesson in her old school and was entertaining herself by making up stories for the storm. One of which was the Greek gods Hera and Zeus were arguing over his everlasting infidelity and she got hold of his lightning bolts. She didn't hear the students. She didn't hear the teacher. She just watched the rain fall. __ Cara was thirsty. She was tired. She was wondering when she would finally run into a bloody wall already! After twenty minutes of careful crawling she still had not run into anything and she was starting to wonder if she had just died and got put in purgatory while all the dead people laughed at her.
She stopped crawling and sat down. She didn't know what to do. She couldn't see, she still hadn't run into a wall, and she had no idea where she was in relation to anything else. She decided to shift into her +Anima form and see what she could do from there.
She rolled her shoulders, stretching the muscles around her now-showing wings and brought her hands up to her ears. Brushing the hair away, she lightly fingered the new points at the top. She took a deep breath and made an odd shrieking noise. The noise bounced off of the walls, giving her an idea of where everything was.
She continued crawling, periodically making that noise to make sense of the surrounding darkness. | |

| Amanda nodded and awkwardly moved another desk for the wall away from the window. Now what was there to do? She sat down in a desk as well, and pulled out some material for yesterday's class. She could've brought up how she was shot the other day... hmm, maybe for after class. She sighed, and tried to read the work in the dark... but it was useless.

Peter leaned over to Kyrine and smiled at her.
"Some school day huh?" -------------- Antha didn't know she feel asleep until she felt someone shaking her. She looked up sheepishly at the teacher knowing nothing she said was going to convince the teacher she wasn't sleeping.
"Detention," Antha guessed. The teacher nodded and just walked back to the front of the room and continued. Antha sighed. She couldn't wait to tell her parents she had gotten another detention. She didn't get them a lot but her parents were still worried. She turned to a girl (Cecilia).
"Do you know what's going on? I was...um...sleeping." | |

| Cecilia turned her head toward the unexpected question, in the process giving herself whiplash. She was making a funny/in pain face while responding.
"Oh, uh he was going on about memoirs and the really big essay that we'll have to do at some later, unspecified, time." She was gritting her teeth while speaking. Owwwwwwwwwwww..... She glanced down to her blank notebook and sighed quietly; then she looked up as she remembered she had no clue who this was that she was talking to. She had no desire to be impolite, after all.
"I'm Cecilia, by the way. It's nice to meet you..." She tilted her head, waiting for the older girl to fill in her name. | |

| Amanda attempted, again in futility, to do her slightly damp homework. It was especially no use in the dark. She thought of Carter, and then Caresa, who was out there in that storm also. And anyone out in that storm. Newscasters were probably giving their terrible decrees of flash floods and cloud-to-ground lightning and "don't be out driving right now", etc., etc. It was only second hour. And the storm probably wasn't ending anytime soon... | |

| "I'm Antha," she said. She felt a little weird being in this class. But after her grades starting slipping she had to deal with what happened. At least her parents weren't too upset. Though it meant that she had to go to summer school. "And thanks. My parents would kill me if I mess up again." | |

| "I'm sure they wouldn't kill you..." Cecilia said, "But maybe they'd be really, really p.o.ed." She made sure to smile kindly, having figured out the particular smile that would make people feel more at ease. She felt her cellphone move in her pocket and glanced down quickly, looking up to Antha and back down again she pulled out her phone. It was a text from her friend, Nikolai. Her eyes darted up to the teacher who was not looking in her direction and back down to the phone as she typed in a quick reply and shut her phone off silently. __ Cara was getting tired. She just wanted to sleep, and started wondering if maybe she was sick. She leaned against the wall and curled up tight in a ball, not bothering to shift out of her +Anima form, and fell asleep. | |

| "Some school day huh?"
Kyrine had that deer-in-the-headlights look when she first heard Peter start speaking to her. She smiled back at him uncertainly.
"Um... yeah. It's been pretty... crazy, hasn't it?" she replied, feeling slightly awkward. Kyrine was a kind of introverted person, so Peter talking to her all of a sudden was almost a little unnerving. ----- Carter's house still wasn't in view and he was really running out of energy to keep himself going, but with the storm, he had to. Unless a random park had been built without his knowing, the closest (maybe?) and best option would be to get home. | |
