Harry Potter and the Children of Slytherin ((Open!!!!))

Kingsley

"They do call it 'Every Flavor Bean' for a reason, Mister Price." Kingsley chided softly, giving his student an amused smile. He looked over at Kami again, and decided on a whim to boy a snack before the trolley lady left. When Kingsley returned, he gave a Chocolate Frog to Kami.

"Consider it a welcoming gift to Hogwarts, Kami. I hope you like it. I rather enjoy Chocolate Frogs, myself."

Alissa

After Alissa finished eating her snacks, the young girl looked over at her fellow First Year apologetically. She took a breath and spoke to the other girl.

"Um, sorry, Kami. I didn't to startle you or anything," she said sheepishly.

Matthew

"It's fine," Matthew assured with a light smile. "I suppose the only thing I can do is joke about it now, or just angst about it. And I'd rather just put the whole incident behind me, really. And yeah, it was rough. But it's over now. Some....sacrifices might have been made, but the witch who tortured me is long dead, thank Merlin."

Dahlia

"Agreed!" Dahlia replied with an eager smile. "It'd be nice to have a friend already, in Slytherin! If we get Sorted in it together, I'm sure we'll have loads of fun!"

And, meanwhile, I'll restore honor to the name of the Malfoy Family, Dahlia thought secretly. It was no secret her family wasn't anywhere near as respected or powerful as it was once, after the end of the Second Wizarding War. Even after Grandfather and Father had collaborated with former Minister Kingsley, and later Minister Potter, they had still gotten a raw deal. If it hadn't been for the fact there were so few Old Wizarding Families left in Britain, no doubt her Father and Grandfather would have been stripped of their status.

Sure, her family still had money, but that was it. Father had been lucky to marry Mother at all, truly. And that was only because they had fancied each other while back in Hogwarts. Otherwise, Father never would have been able to marry. After all, who would want to wed with the son of a convicted Death Eater?

So much had been taken from the Malfoy Family, and so many refused to deal with them because of their unfortunate past, that Father could really only gain coin from overseas ventures. True, there was some good cause for this, Dahlia admitted grudgingly. After all, Grandfather HAD supported the Dark Lord Voldemort. But Voldemort was long dead now, and the Malfoys had long repented, since. There was absolutely no good reason why her family was still blacklisted in Britain.

Thus, Dahlia was determined to change that, no matter the cost. Her family would become powerful one day again, and honor would be restored to them. Nothing would stop her from that goal. Not even that blasted Minister Potter, or his Cronies.

((And is it just me, or does Ken kinda seem similar to Johan Liebert from Monster? ....Oh let me guess, I'm the only one who's seen Monster, neh? Typical. XP))

Having long gotten used to Nikola's spacy nature, Andrew merely nodded and mused, "There is nowhere like Hogwarts."

He returned his attention to the newspaper, frowning slightly at Minister Potter's picture.

"MMmm-hmmm.... Oh, what's the Prophet spewing out today?" She asked as she turned away from the window and saw the newspaper he was holding. She had long-since given up on the Daily Prophet, since it only gave the views of the ministry.

~* Quinn, Ash *~

The two sisters walked down the train. they were the very last ones to board the train and were finding it rather hard to find a compartment.

"it's never been this difficult to find an empty compartment," Ash complained.

"That's because we would always come here early. If only we woke up earlier..." Quinn looked through compartment windows, hoping to find one with enough room for them to share.

"i know, we would have gotten here earlier. I get it." Quinn and Ash went past a compartment that didn't seem too crowded. Quinn noticed two guys Ravenclaw, in her house, who seemed vaguely familiar. She would probably recognize them if she interacted with them for the past six years. Quinn also noticed a female in Gryffindor. Ash stopped behind her and glanced inside the compartment, noticing the Gryffindor.

"I think I know her. She's from my house so shouldn't I?" thought Ash.

"Mind if we join? My sister and I have been finding it hard to find a compartment." Quinn told them.

Edward

"Sure! The more the merrier!" Edward declared with a bright smile.

((I'd put more substance into this post, but I'm short on time. My apologies.))

"I'm fine with it." Alchemy offered. It was always nice to have somebody from her own house to talk to on the long train ride. Not to say she didn't enjoy the company of the students in other houses, but there would always be an awkwardness, a silent competitive hostility from members of other houses.

"That frivolous privileges are a small price to pay for the safety the Ministry provides," Andrew grunted, "Is the Ministry still giving the Quibbler trouble?"

Nikola rolled her eyes at what the Prophet was writing. "I'm sure they are," she told him, "They always are. "

~*Quinn, Ash*~

Quinn and Ash entered the compartment and flung their suitcases to the hold above them. Ash also took her cat out of its cage. They sat next to eachother, Ash placed her cat on her lap and gently stroked its fur.

"I'm Quinn, Sixth Year Ravenclaw," Quinn introduced herself. At the same time, she played with her glove that was visible on her left hand. Quinn

"I'm Ashley, but you can just call me Ash," Her sister introduced. "I'm a fifth year in Gryffindor."

"Oh, hi Ashley!" Alchemy greeted, recognizing her yearmate. They weren't exactly close friends, but when you were in the same year and house, it was pretty much impossible not to know each other.

Riddley smiled at the two who had just entered and gave a small nod. She was happy to share a compartment with others of her House.

"Riddley Walker, Ravenclaw second year."

"It's why I ordered a subscription," Andrew told her with a small smile, "I'm suspicious of anything the Ministry deems "okay"."

(I haven't even heard of that movie, Magus. XD Of course, it is R, so that would explain why.)

Kami munched down on the chocolate frog, having caught it the second it had bolted, and glanced warily at Alissa. She swallowed the chocolate, liking the sweet taste and the way it melted in her mouth and flowed down her throat, and then sat up a little straighter.

"I wasn't startled," she said hotly. "Just... I wasn't startled. That's for weaklings."

She took another bite of the treat and turned her silver eyes to the card still sitting in the wrappings.

Ken gave a nod of his head. "I understand. When you want to talk about it, I'm here, but, for now, we'll pretend as if it had never happened." Patience was, indeed, a virtue, and it was the best course for gaining the information he needed. Pushing the story out of Matthew now would only result in a fight, and maybe even the loss of his "friend". So he would wait.

((Hehe. Sorry, I meant an anime called Monster, not a movie. Shoulda been more clear on that. But anyway, I think it's time I time-skipped us to Hogwarts. Anyone mind that?))

GENERAL NARRATIVE

All too soon the Hogwarts Expressed reached its destination, and the students were quickly escorted into the castle. Those who were not First Years quickly found seats at their respective House's table. But for the few who were Firsties, they were lined up just outside the entrance to the Great Hall, waiting for their names to be called for Sorting.

Headmaster Filius Flitwick called out the names, one at a time, until eventually reaching a certain name...

"Malfoy, Dahlia!"

Silence reigned through the Hall, as the infamous Family Name was uttered. Dahlia boldly strode into the room, ignoring all stares sent her way. Especially any sneers from the Gryffindor table.

After she stepped up to the platform the Professors currently sat at, Dahlia gently sat on the stool meant for her and Headmaster Flitwick gently levitated the Sorting Hat onto her head. After staring at the floor for a moment, a low chuckle caught Dahlia's attention.

"Ah, another Malfoy. My my, it's been some time since I Sorted any of you lot. Hm. Ah, and quite the interesting Malfoy you are, Miss Dahlia. I can already tell you're nothing like your father. Oh, of course, you both have ambition, but you....you do not have the same sense of, well, nobility about you. Heh. How far the Mighty Malfoys have fallen!"

"Shut up and Sort me already," Dahlia hissed to the Hat. To her displeasure, the charmed being merely gave another low chuckle in response.

"Hold your hippogriffs, girly. I'm not done yet. We haven't even considered the possibilites! Now, let's see....hm, Hufflepuff is out of the question, I take it? Yes, of course. You would do well in Ravenclaw, but I do not take you as the scholarly type. Which leaves us with Gryffindor and Slytherin. Hm. You have the ambition to be a Snake, but you also have the courage to be a Griffon. Quite the little conundrum!"

"Sort me into Slytherin!" Dahlia hissed again, quickly getting tired of the miserable old Hat's ramblings.

"Are you sure?" it asked her, a touch of concern in its tone. "I've seen enough minds to know what the current political climate in Britain is. Gryffindor would be hard for you, but if you excelled there, you'd do great things to restore your family's name. You could do the same in Slytherin, true, but it would be fraught with peril and infinitely harder, there."

"I don't care." the young girl retorted. "I will NOT admit defeat by being allowed to be Sorted into Gryffindor! I shall restore honor to my family, and do it very bloody well in House Slytherin, thank you! I will not submit to Minister Potter by joining his lowly House!"

The Sorting Hat was silent for a few moments, as it considered her reply. Finally, it said, "Very well, then. If you're so insistant, better be SLYTHERIN!!!!"

After the Hat made its proclomation, the table of Slytherins burst out into expectant applause, and Dahlia gently got off of the stool and gracefully made her way to her new House Table. Taking a seat by some older looking boy that looked oddly familiar, Dahlia gave a sigh of relief and listened as the next name was called.

"Niberton, Kamilopterisa Hilwervis!" Headmaster Flitwick shouted. Scattered chuckles broke out through the Hall, from the seemingly ridiculous sounding name. Even so, the upper year students craned their heads to the Hall's entrance, waiting for the first glimpse of Miss Niberton...

(Forgive me for the awfulness of this post. I had a hectic day and it's one in the morning...)

Kami’s face reddened as her full, ridiculous name was read out for the entire world to hear, and it was all she could do not to bolt. Instead she stood there, rooted to the spot, as those around her and in the Great Hall laughed.

She couldn’t go in, she just couldn’t! Not now…

But one of her fellow First Years gave her a slight push and she found herself flailing into the Great Hall. A few more laughs met her ears, causing her face to flush a deeper shade of red, but there was no turning back. Quickly she rushed up to the stool, feeling a great sense of relief when the Hat was placed over her head.

“An interesting mix of bloods,” a small voice remarked, and she jumped, her hands instantly flying up to the Hat, to pull it free.

“Yes, I can read the thoughts in your mind,” the Hat said, his voice sounding quite calm when compared to her frantically beating heart. He could… He could… But then…? “Your sordid past is quite clear, but you have rejected it, even with the blood of the Levot family flowing through you. Quite powerful they once were, as you could become, in Slytherin.”

No. The answer was sudden and forceful. She didn’t have a clue as to what he was talking about, with blood this and that, but she did know that she was never going to become again what she had been.

“Very well. Your loyalty to Javy –here Kami flinched— suggests Hufflepuff would be the House for you, but yet you lack patience, and a desire to work with others. You think that you can handle life on your own, but you’re falling apart on the inside. Still, you put on a brave face, and even when running from your demons, you try to face them. As such… GRYFFINDOR!”

Kami’s face had gone from red to pale, as she pulled the Hat from her head. Her body moved towards the applauding Gryffindor table, and she slid into the first open seat that she came across, not really noticing the change from walking to sitting. She wanted to be alone; she needed to be alone.
