Peace or Not (Avatar Roleplay)

"Yeah," he said dreamily, taking in the sweet smell of roasting meet. He looked around, taking in all the food being prepared for the feast, which included dishes from all four nations, even if Aang was the only Airbender as of yet.

He drifted towards the already-cooked dishes of meet, eying a plump turtleduck covered in some Fire Nation sauce.

Toph followed Sokka. She could smell her way well enough, but she knew Sokka all too much. He would immediately know which the best meat dishes with just once glance. They came up on one he was particurarly interested in.

Her stomach rumbled.

"Go ahead and grab some for us!" she said, nudging him. "You know, before they kick us out."

Sokka nodded and took off the drumsticks, handing on over to Toph before anyone could spot them. Just as he was about to leave, he looked over and saw a fat and angry-looking cook. He turned over to Toph and nodded at her.

"Run!" he cried, grabbing her free hand with his and running out of the kitch, barely missing blast of firebending. Why were cooks always so sensitive?

"And many thanks to you too!" shouted Toph, back at the angry cook. "You'd think they'd be happy we were complimenting their food. Eating it is a compliment, right?" She was already gnawing on the drumstick Sokka had given to her. "Mmmm...."

"I know!" Sokka exclaimed, taking a bite of his own piece of meat, "Mmm... Good. Kind of spicy. Anyway, I guess it's because cooks are picky about when and how their food is eaten. I guess they don't like the thought of us plucking some for a snack."

"Especially since this is all supposed to be for a wedding." Toph shrugged. "Zuko won't mind we're eating his food. He knew we were going to anyway, and there's plenty more where this came from."

She grabbed herself another drumstick. She was starving.

"Let's find a place to sit down, Sokka," she said. "Rest, relax, and hang out."

"Yeah, it's been a long time, hasn't it?" Sokka asked her with a grin. He took a strip of meat and ate some himself, "Come on, I think I know a place on the grounds Zuko was telling Aang about. It's supposed to be real peaceful."

"Okay. Let's check it out," said Toph. She didn't much like crowds anyway, and a peaceful place away from all the commotion of the upcoming wedding would be a blessing in disguise. "Lead the way, Snoozles."

Sooka grinned and took her hand, leading her down the hall and up a side door into the grounds. He could vaguely see the walls enclosing it as he led her up the hill and towards a cherry blossom tree. He had never really seen anything quite like it. He decided it was rather nice.

He sat by the tree, where he can still see Zuko and the others in the distance if he squinted. He spoke, "This is nice."

"Yeah. It is," said Toph, meaning it. She flopped to the ground beneath the tree and sat beside Sokka. She took in a deep breath of the fresh breeze. "You do good sometimes, Sokka," she added, grinning, and gave him a friendly punch in the arm.

"I like to think I do," he told her with a laugh, closing her eyes. he punched her back, way softer than Toph did to him, "You're not so bad yourself."

"You say that now..." she said, laughing. She leaned back against the tree. She started eating another drumstick to appease her empty stomach, but Toph soon slowed. Brow furrowed, she hesitated before she spoke again. "So... You okay? With Suki being here and all?"

Sokka sighed, "I know I will have to talk to her about it. You know, trying to find out more about exactly why she broke up with me, but I'm over her now. I just need some closure, just to know why."

He took a bite of another piece of meat.

"That's understandable," she said. "I mean, you guys were together for a while. You deserve to know why it didn't work out."

Because it's hurt you, not knowing.

"I know. I'll try to corner her tonight and make her tell me why," Sokka told her with a look of determination on his face.

"There you go," said Toph, slapping him on the back. "Talk to her. I'm sure you guys will get everything straightened out. Need me to back you up, or is this one of those deals where you'd rather do it by yourself?"

"I think I might need a lie detector," Sokka admitted to her as he waved over at Suki, trying to signal her to come over to them.

Suki, meanwhile, sighed at Sokka's signal. She supposed that she might as well get this over with and well outside of earshot of the others.

She raised an eyebrow at Toph's prescence before cursing under her breath. She'd have to conceal the truth without lying.

"Oh, hey Sokka," she told him awkwardly.

"Yeah. Hey Suki," Sokka told her. His question died on his lips. He didn't really know how to say it now that the moment was here.

Toph sighed. Leave it to him to lose his nerve when the time called for it. She nudged him in the side with her elbow.

"Just do it, idiot! She's not getting any younger."

"Okay, okay," Sokka grunted before turning to Suki seriously, "Suki, I just want to know why you broke up with me."

Suki groaned inwardly, "It's complicated. I just didn't feel the relationship was going anywhere."

Sokka shook his head, "No, there's something else. I know it is. What is it?"

Suki glanced from him, to Toph and bit her tongue, "It's complicated and personal."

Sokka looked confused and gave Toph a look, wondering if this was a girl thing.

Toph shrugged.

"She's not lying, if that's why you're looking at me."

Suki's heartbeat was a bit faster than usual, too. She was nervous about it, whatever this personal matter truly was. Toph did not mention that, though. This was between Sokka and Suki, and she wouldn't butt in if she didn't have to.

"Suki, you can tell me. If you found another guy, I understand. I'm fine now," Sokka told her, trying to get her to open up.

"Sokka, it's not that. I just can't be with a guy, any guy!" Suki told him before she knew what she was saying. She covered her mouth.

Sokka looked at her in confusion.

"Oh... Oh!" said Toph, getting it a few seconds after Suki had revealed the truth. "You mean you like..." She trailed off again. "Huh. Wasn't expecting that one." She sensed Suki's reaction. "What're you so uptight about? I don't see the big deal about it. Though maybe you should've been truthful with Sokka."

"So Suki, Haru....how have you two been holding up," Zuko asked, trying to change subjects. He could get into a fight with Jet and it was clear that Jet was just itching for one, but he had to be civil.

"Fine. I became a general in the Earth Kingdom and it's keep me busy. Since I used to travel -somewhat- during the war they have me going from village to village, trying to calm down any fights between the Earth Kingdom residents and the Fire Nation citizens still there."

"Seems like a good job."

"It's fine. A little tiring at times, but I prefer it to the war."

"It's certainly more exciting than dealing with courtiers," Mai commented before smirking slightly, "Whatever happened to the adviser that told you I shouldn't play with knives, Zuko?"

"Huh? I'm confused," Sokka, trying get what the two girls were talking about.

"I like... women," Suki muttered before replying to Toph, "You don't understand. There have always been rumors like this about Kyoshi Warriors being like this and I don't know how people will react."

"Well," Sokka said, feeling a bit better, "I don't think any different of you. You're still a kickass warrior and pretty and everything. Plus you're my friend, so it doesn't matter."

Suki looked at Sokka. He was taking this a lot better. She sighed, "I should have told you. I'm sorry."

"It's okay," Sokka said with a grin, "I just feel a lot better now."

"I'd say. You just treat Toph, right," Suki told him, causing him to blush and try to think of something to say without getting Toph mad or anything.

"I don't know. I haven't seen him in so long," Zuko replied to Mai.

"Wait you like girls? Does this mean I can make fun of you as well now?"

"Why? Do you like boys Haru," Jet asked.

"I didn't-"

"You implied it."

"I'm about to implied my fist to your face."
