Collab Board

So, Toko's thread in the Creative Works section reminded me of something that I've thought about from time-to-time, but was never possible on ASN.

Could a collab section be created on this site? I love collaborating, but sometimes it's really difficult to be online at the same time long enough to get anything done. This section would have to have unique rules to it from RPing, but I think that it would be both useful and fun to have.

Just a thought.

Well, we could do this, but I'd need more specifics on what the section would be and what it would include, since I'm unfamiliar with the concept.

It's kind of like RPing in the sense that it's a story involving other people. Only, it's not open for people submitting applications and then joining. It's basically a book authored by multiple people. Also, the other people in the project have more say about plot and setting and whatnot.

For example, Shadow, Plaguewalker, and I are currently writing a story together. We knew that we wanted to write a story together, so then we discussed what we wanted and meshed some of our desires together to get the setting. We also worked together to figure out what the general plot was. After that, we created characters to put into this setting and now the story is going where the characters take it.

Some people do collaborations differently, but that's the rough concept--writing a story together with at least one other person.

Off of the top of my head, some of the special rules it would have to have are things like:
1. If you ask to join a collab, the people in it do not have to let you in. Collabs are not RPs and the more people accepted into one, the harder it is to make it work.
2. If you want to collab with someone, ask them in PM. Don't start a thread pleading for someone to collab with you.
3. If the collab is not yours, don't spam it with comments about the story (unless the writers specifically say that's okay). PM those comments.

I'm gonna go out and say that that is a wicked cool idea. I'd definitely frequent it if such a board did exist.

Ok so we've decided that you can have Collaborations. But we will not be making another board for it. We will make another topic where people can discuss their ideas for a collaboration they want to do, and you can make them in the topics appropriate for them while posting in the rules that it is a collab for a specific group of certain people and that it is private to those people unless they say otherwise.

So, just to make sure I understand what you’re saying, the collabs are just going to be within the RP sections depending on where they fit, right? So an adventure collab would be in with the adventure RPs.

That option didn’t even cross my mind. It sounds fine to me. I’ll shoot manysidestome a PM with what he asked for about a week ago. Wrote it up last night, before I saw this, but it won’t be hard to modify.

That's exactly what I meant. You just have to state that you're topic is a private(or public, if you want.) collaboration story and go with it from there.
