The City of Forgotten Memories (Rated T, Accepting)

The town of Memoria was just like any other modern American city. Founded back in the late Eighteen Hundreds, this city has withstood the test of time. It is a beaming metropolis, with a low crime-rate and a good system of living. Neither its police or local political parties have any signs of corruption, and each Mayor of Memoria has had a successful reign in which they improved the city more. However, their is one thing that makes Memoria different than just any other city.

It is the last one on Earth.

Due to extreme events still not yet known, Memoria now holds the last remnants of humankind. All area outside of the city and its farmlands is a vast desert wasteland, waiting to consume any who are foolish enough to venture into it. Even with this unfortunate situation, the city still tries to get by. Piece by piece they are attempting to rebuild humanity. However, their is still yet another problem, perhaps even more grave than the last.

The citizens of Memoria have no memories.

The people inside this city suffer from a long-term case of amnesia, or the loss of all memories. It happened without warning, just as the destruction of mankind did. They have no idea who they previously were, thus the citizens had to reconstruct their identities. Compounded with the destruction of all other known humankind, these events nearly tore the city apart, threatening to wipe out what was left of the humans.

Then, in this great crisis, a savior emerged. The leader of the newfound Memory Foundation, Thomas Maywater, stepped into the spotlight. He managed to calm everyone down, and restored order to the city of Memoria. Thomas soon assumed control over the city, at the urging of the people. The Memory Foundation soon become the city's only and most powerful company, under Maywater's watchful eye. Together, he and his company guided the town into a new age, to survive this new harsh and confusing world.

Thirty years have passed since then. Now new generations have been born into this fragile city, to help lead mankind into a new future. Still, the mysterious of the past remain. No one knows what happened to the rest of the world, or what caused their amnesia. Most likely these two events are interconnected, but no headways have been made to discover how and why. Explorations teams have been sent out into the vast desert, but so far no other signs of other remnants of civilization have been found. As far as the people of Memoria know, they are alone in this world.

Still, the people try to go on. With their new identities, the people have gone forward. Thomas Maywater stills rules the town, though no-one dares to challenge his leadership. He and the Memory Foundation continue to guide the city forward into the future, with Alen Maywater (Thomas' son) likely to succeed his father once Thomas dies. Even with the many problems they all share and face, the people of Memoria continue to go on about their lives. They are determined to see things through to the end. They will not be beaten.

However, memories from the past are starting to surface. The amnesia of some are starting to clear away, bit by bit. The past is choosing to reveal iself at last, and the mystery of what exactly happened may soon be revealed. Encouraged by these developments, many are searching to find out more about the unknown past.

Their are some who do not want this to come about, though. They will stop at nothing to keep the memories at bay, and kill anyone who is on the verge of breaking their amnesia. They wish to keep the status quo, for they fear what the past may hold.

And they are right to fear. As the fog clouding the past disappears, terrible secrets will be unearthed. As the mystery of their situation is finally revealed, the truth may threaten to tear apart the city once again. One way or another, though, things will never be the same again...

Personality: Antha is a hyper girl with a very positive attitude about things. She doesn't let others get her down and tries to help others. Antha can't just walk away from people in trouble and tends to sympathy with others. Always there to lend an ear. A caring person, Antha tries her best to make others happy. She's not that smart, but her positive outlooks makes her popular.
History: Antha is the younger sibling of Hyu and looks more like her father (but has her mother's/brother's eyes). Since she was born after the anmesia issue, she doesn't really concern herself with it. Her father died in a car accident when she was two and so the main male figure in her life was her brother. She use to cling to him, never letting the boy out of her sights until about third grade when she began to make a lot of friends. But she still is close to her brother. Antha got a job as a waitress not too long ago, even though she is a few years younger than she is suppose to be. She wanted to help out her family and the owner allowed it since Antha's bright personality would attrach customers.

Personality: Unlike his younger sister, Hyu is more introverted. He doesn't really put much effort into making friends with everyone, although he still has friends. Hyu is smart and tends to correct people if they make a mistake. He is protective of his sister and anyone younger or weaker than him. He doesn't like it when people bully others and will fight them if he has to.
History: Hyu is Antha's older brother and looks like his mother. When his father died, it upset Hyu and he made a point to be there for the rest of his family. He never minded when his sister tagged along. Still he was glad when she began to hang out with her friends and when she got a job. Hyu got involved in mechanics at a young age and got a job at a shop a year ago.

Personality: Crismon doesn't usually talk much, but not being shy, but from not having a lot to say. She tends to go along with others, but is an intelligent girl none-the-less and is always willing to help someone. She is kind of rebellious at times, not always finishing her work and gets bored easily at the inn with her responsibilities.
History: Crimson grew up with a fair life as the only child of the inn's owners. But because of this her family had already decided that she would take over one day and ever since she was young, Crimson had been trained as manager. She was home schooled as well and her only friend had been Alen Maywater since her parents became friends his his father around the time the amnesia struck. Eventually Crimson convinced her family to allow her to attend school, though Alen is still one of her major friends.

Personality: Chei is a hardworking man, concerned with doing a good job more than a social life. He is still friendly with people, but Chei is usually more absorbed in what he is working on than spending time with others. This got worse after this father's death (his only parent) and now Chei is kind of distant and a little bitter at times.
History: Chei was young at the time the amnesia struck, but he was still able to make his way into the Memory Foundation. After living in the Memory Orphanage until about age thirteen, he was finally adopted by one of it's members. Since then he was taught and trained to become one as well once he reached the approperiate age. At eighteen he began working for the Memory Foundation and soon made his way up. After the death of this father, Chei stopped working for some time, but a couple months ago he resumed his work. Lately he has been getting a strange feeling of fimiliarity.

Personality: Isaac can be described as an overconfident and suave type of guy. He often tries to charm those around him, and is a kind of a ladies’ man. He is a bit arrogant in his abilities, though he does know his limits. Isaac can be a good sport, and is often kind to those around him. However, he does have his own serious and grim side to himself. Isaac takes his job mighty seriously, and will do his best to accomplish any task he’s given. Isaac has a distaste of those who pick on the innocent and weak, too.
History: Isaac was only seven when the entire town lost its memory, but even he was not spared from it. He, like many children in the city, had forgotten whom their parents were and because of this were put into an ever-growing orphanage until things could be settled out. Unfortunately, their memories never did return, unlike what many had thought when the crisis first began. He was only lucky enough to be taken in by a young rich couple, the Meyr family. He was soon renamed, and Isaac’s new life began for him.

When Isaac turned 21, he decided to join the police in Memoria. He spent the next twelve years in the force, forming a life-long friendship with the then deputy commander, Kandor Bryan. After his twelve years on the force, Isaac decided to retire, believing he could better help the people of Memoria as a private investigator. And so Isaac retired from the police, and set up his own detective agency with the help of the Meyr family. For four years now, Isaac has been a private detective, and a rather successful one. However, memories from the past have now started to resurface in his mind…

Personality: Kandor is a jolly man, who looks older than he actually is. He often tries to look on things with a positive outlook, since that is what helped him cope with his amnesia thirty years ago. He tries not to let things get him down, though Kandor can be serious when need be. Kandor especially loves children, and often donates what money he can to the Memoria Orphanage.
History: Kandor was only a young man when nearly all civilization was wiped out, and the amnesia struck. Like all alive during those turbulent times, he had to remake his identity. Thus, Kandor Bryan was born. Kandor volunteered in the police to help restore order in those troubling first times, and eventually joined the force itself. So far he has spent a great career in the police, and was made chief two years ago. Kandor married and had a child, though sadly his wife died via complications during childbirth. This did not get him down, however, and Kandor continued to strive forward. His daughter is now grown, and is a member of the Memory Foundation Council. Kandor thoroughly enjoys his job, and is content with his life. Memories from his old life, though, have started to come back to him…

Personality: Seth acts emotionless a lot of the time, and often does not display any reactions to anything. She will do whatever it takes to accomplish her missions, even if it means innocents are to get harmed.
History: Seth was abandoned as a child, and lived in the Memoria Orphanage until she was ten. A criminal kidnapped her and raised her as his own, making Seth into the perfect killer. Now at age eighteen, Seth remains as one of Memoria’s best assassins. She’ll do anything you pay her to, no matter what it is. Women, children, the elderly, Seth cares not for whom she murders.

Personality: Luan acts like a gruff old man, most of the time. While he does have a softer side to him, Luan has a great contempt of those born after the amnesia crisis. He can be distant at times, and often does not like the company of others. He does, however, have kind feelings toward his grandchildren, even though he rarely sees them.
History: Luan was among those alive thirty years ago when both the rest of the world ended, and the mass amnesia swept Memoria. Like many in those troubling first few years, he struggled to get by, even though he had no true idea who he was. Eventually he decided that while he may not have his memories back at this moment, he would continue to look for them no matter what. And until such time, he would continue onward. Now content, he renamed himself Luan Cross. Shortly thereafter, Luan adopted one of the many orphans that had sprung up during the amnesia crisis. While taking care of the young boy, Luan continued to pursue the mysterious of the past, eventually becoming a famous information broker in the town. And as a hobby, Luan took up becoming a scientist. A few years later Luan met a young inventor named Sarah Min, and together the two went into business with the Memory Foundation. Not too soon afterwards Luan and Sarah married.

Decades passed, and the young boy Luan had taken in soon became a man. He married one day, and soon Luan had grandchildren. Luan dotted on them greatly, taking up the role of a ‘kindly grandfather’ immediately. Thanks to the vast fortune he had assembled, Luan was able to make sure his son’s family lived in luxury and would help pay the children through school.

Tragedy soon struck, however. Luan’s beloved son died, leaving his grandchildren with no father. While Sarah became even closer to her grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Luan chose to distance himself from the family, for reasons still unknown. He put himself into his work, letting it consume him often times. He still helped to pay his grandchildren through school, but did not visit them as much as their grandmother did. He cares deeply for them, but Luan often finds his work pulling him away from his family. Recently, his old memories have started to return to the old man, piece by piece…

History: Catherine is the only daughter of Kandor Bryan, the current police chief of Memoria. Catherine had a moderately pleasant childhood under Kandor’s loving care. When Catherine was 22, she joined the Memory Foundation and eventually joined the Foundation Council. She seeks to make Memoria a better place with her work on the Memory Foundation Council.

History: Maria was just a young girl when her memories were taken from her. Like most young children thirty years ago, Maria was sent into an orphanage. However, unlike most, she was never adopted. Maria continued to live in the orphanage the rest of her childhood, eventually turning to a life of crime. She worked her way to the top of the criminal ladder, eventually becoming one of Memoria’s most famous and powerful crime lords. Because of her major influence, Maria won herself a seat on the Council. Many suspect her less-than-honest ways, but nothing definitive can be pinned on her as of the moment. Maria is the very definition of corruption on the Foundation Council, and has future ambitions of one day ruling the Memory Foundation. She will destroy all who get in her way, no matter what. Memories from her past are starting to become more evident in her mind now, however…

History: Joseph's parents are both storekeepers and, for the most part, they never missed their old lives. When he was about 12, he showed a keen intellect and was given a job at Memoria's Archives, one of the most important institutions in Memoria as it contains all the information the city has on the past and present. To Joseph, it is paradise. It has so much information that he could see himself going through it for years. He hopes to one day become Chief Archive Keeper and Historian.

Personality: Peter is a gruff old man, about as grounded a person as he can get. He prefers the serenity of his arm to large crowds and believes that crops and livestock are more important than silly lost memories.
History: Thirty years ago, when Peter lost his memories, Peter was scared. He survived, though, one day at a time and when the city of Memoria was founded, Peter found work as a farmer, eventually receiving a farm just outside the city's outskirts. There, he raised a family with his life and children and, eventually, became a voice of reason among the community and spoke for the farmers when they became disgruntled. Recently, some memories have begun to surface, confusing him greatly.

Personality: A dour and introverted young girl, Ashley comes off as anti-social to most people. She lacks creativity and a high intellect, but she makes up for it with a strong work ethic to help her move along in life. Ashley can come across as rude and blunt, but she sees herself as just telling it like it is.
History: Ashley was born after the incident when everyone lost their memories. But even so, she grew up in the Memorium orphanage. No one ever found out about who her parents were, and unfortunately, Ashley was one of the few children who were never adopted. She lived in the orphanage until the day she turned sixteen, when she moved out and got two jobs as a waitress, and a secretary as well, though she later left that job once she was making enough money as a waitress.

Personality: Samuel is a kind extroverted old man, and an active member of the community of Memoria. He believes in helping children so that the next generation will always be better then the one before it. He has trouble connecting to or caring about other people, but he hides this facet of himself so others only know the kindly old man they think he is. Recently he has become very paranoid, and broken his own moral code as well.
History: Samuel was just a young man when he lost his memories, and he never actually discovered his identity or who his family was before the the devastating event. Samuel chose his names because he liked the meaning of them, and felt a connection to it. Over the next few years as Memoria rebuilt itself Samuel became an active member of the community. Samuel never married, though he did date a few women over the years, the relationships never grew into anything that he considered special or meaningful. On his fourteenth birthday(Minus the twenty-six years before the crisis, since he doesn't remember how old he was/is.), Samuel became the head archive keeper of Memoria, thus giving him quite a bit of respect and sway within the community.

Recently Samuel has begun to regain his memories, and though they're only vague bits and pieces, he doesn't like what he's seeing. In an attempt to prevent anyone from finding out about his past Samuel has joined a group of people who will stop at nothing to prevent people from regaining their memories.
Other: Samuel's regained memories are of him being arrested, and of him standing over a young girl's body. He has told no one about them.

Personality: Ivo is an intelligent, introverted, and self-sacrificing man. He's easily annoyed and hates noise, yet he tries to restrain himself from showing this to people so as not to offend them. Ivo is constantly thinking and is painfully self-conscious as well. He hides his emotions from other people and can seem distant and sometimes even cold to people who try to be friends with him. He has trouble making conversation with others, which is why he tries to avoid situations where he'll have to talk with people for more then brief moments of meaningless interaction.
History: Ivo Gwenael was just a young boy when the incident occurred. Luckily for him both he and his parents were at home when they woke up, so he was never placed in an orphanage.

Ivo's father was a lazy but kindhearted man, who worked as a receptionist for the Memory foundation. His mother, an ambitious and cold woman was a politician, and eventually gained a position on the Memory Foundation Council itself. Ivo's mother was quite religious, and thus he went to a religious private school until he graduated at the age of fifteen. When he was sixteen he became an apprentice archive keeper, a job which he became fully trained in until eventually transferring to the Memoria Main Library where he's worked ever since.

When he was nineteen his Father was arrested for Vehicular manslaughter after causing a car crash that took the lives of three people. Ivo has only seen him six times since that event.

When he was eighteen, after some pressure from his Mother, Ivo began to date the Daughter of a member of the council. Their relationship lasted three years, until his mother and girlfriend began to pressure him into proposing. Ivo had an emotional breakdown and suddenly ended the relationship one night, much to the chagrin of his Mother. After a rather heated argument between them, Ivo came out to his Mother with a mixed reaction from her. His Mother agreed that he shouldn't have to get married, but he would at least have to stay single and hide his sexuality, so as not to make her seem cold to the people or hypocritical about the political policies she supported.
Ivo, not wanting to disappoint his mother even more, hastily agreed with her terms and has kept to them ever since.

Over the years Ivo has been skating by in life, living alone and working whenever he can so as to distract himself from life. He has few he could even begin to call friend and he's beginning to break, though at least he has his books to occasionally distract him.

Personality: Dylan is an emotional, energetic and confident young man. He enjoys getting what he wants and he doesn't mind offending or hurting others to get it. He loves attention and he's quite flirtatious as well, though he does restrain himself. For Dylan, family comes first and he will do anything to make sure that they're both comfortable and safe. Dylan is creative and of average intelligence, and he hates being alone.
History: Dylan was born shortly after the incident. He lived a relatively happy life with his two loving parents, a shopkeeper and school teacher. Dylan eventually had two young siblings, twin girls, who were born a few months after he turned eleven.

When Dylan was sixteen he got a job with postal services to help his family make ends meet, he has kept the job ever since. When Dylan was nineteen he met the love of his life, Margaret Smith. They dated for a while, and when they were both twenty-three, they married.

Over the next few years Dylan took to thieving, using his knowledge of the city due to his job to help him steal only from those he knew were wealthy so he could somehow justify his actions to himself. Recently he has found out that his wife is pregnant, and thus he has moved back to his old neighborhood so as to live closer to his family.

Isaac Meyr

Isaac Meyr walked into the cafe, and took a seat at the nearest table. The private detective picked up a menu and started to leaf through it, though his thoughts weren't on what he should eat. He'd never been to this place before, and the only reason he was here at all was because a client had asked him to meet him here. And, as of right now, said client had yet to show up.

Making an annoyed sigh, Isaac tossed the menu to the other side of the table and looked around for a waiter. Well, hopefully this place had good food...

Antha straightened her uniform as she saw someone sit down. Grabbing a pad and a pen, she made her way over.

"Welcome," she said with a cheerful smile. "May I take your order sir?"

Joseph Becket sighed as he sat at the table of a restaurant, not taking his eyes off the book he was reading. He was terribly bored. Still, he had some time to kill at the moment. He leaned back, not taking his eyes from his book.

Peter grunted as he drove into town, his old car filled with the produce he was going to sell in the market. His car sputtered and he frowned. He really needed to spring for newer parts while he was in town.

Ashley stood up as she saw a young boy take a seat. Today hadn't been a very busy one and so the girl was relieved to see a Customer in her section finally. "Hello, Sir, my name is Ashley and I will be helping you today. Would you like anything to drink?" She recited the standard greeting to the customer while pretending to be interested in her job.

Ivo Gwenael

"Mother, no. No I will not come over there tonight, it's awkward and unpleasant being around her. Mother, I am working right now, I cannot leave right now. Fine I'll be there at seven. Love you to, Ma, goodbye." Ivo quietly finished his conversation with his Mother before hanging up. The Librarian sighed loudly in frustration as he sat down at his desk again and looked down at the papers he had been reading before his Mother had called him

"You know you didn't have to give in to that Bitch again." A young girl in her teens, dressed in the uniform of a junior Librarian, said as she tried to console Ivo.

"Claire, that Bitch is my Mother and I'm all she has left." Ivo replied with a false sternness as frowned at the girl.

"It seems more like it's the other way around Ivo. She could easily move on and live without you, but you seem to be stuck to her for some reason." Claire said with a smirk on her face.

"Yes well thank you for pointing out just how pathetic I am, but I am a tad busy right now if you hadn't noticed, so can you just tell me why you are here so I wont have to waste my time with you any longer?" Ivo replied coldly.

"Just came here to drop off the books you requested, that's all Sir." She replied, visibly hurt for a few seconds before she simply set the books on his desk and quickly walked out of the room.

Ivo sighed in frustration once again before quickly grabbing one of the books Claire had left him, deciding that reading would be better then trying to apologize at this point.

Joseph looked up at the sound of a waitress and closed his book. He glanced at the menu beofre looking at the waitress, "I'd like some tea, thank you."

Isaac

Isaac briefly looked over back at the menu before turning toward the waitress. "What would you recommend?"

The detective began to drum his fingers on the table and looked over his shoulder, searching for any signs of his client. But alas, no sign thus far. Hell, he didn't even know who his client was, or what she or he looked like. They knew he'd be here, but Isaac had no idea when his client would arrive. Hopefully soon.

Ashley

"Coming right up." Ashley replied before quickly walking to the kitchen. "We have a Customer, he wants some tea. Didn't say what kind so just make some green." She reported to the Chef.

"Ashley, even you can boil some water, why don't you get it, it's my break." The Chef, Saul, replied.

"Fine." She replied before grabbing a kettle and filling it up with water. "Hey, since you're not working today, maybe I can get paid for doing two jobs." She said before turning around and smiling at Saul slyly.

"Oh screw you. Everyone knows you couldn't cook a full meal even if your life depended on it." Saul replied before loudly laughing, acting as though he had just made a hilarious joke.

"Whatever, Saul. You may be able to cook, but I can still kick your ass at cards. Of course, from what your wife tells me about your debt, it seems like that's not saying much." Ashley replied rudely before taking the whistling kettle off of the stove and pouring it into a leaf filled cup.

"Huh, Helen doesn't know what she's talking about. We're doing fine." Saul replied gruffly.

"I'm sure, Saul, I'm sure." Ashley replied with obvious disbelief before walking out of the kitchen with the cup.

"Hear you go Sir, a nice hot cup of tea." She said while putting it on the table in front of the young man. "Now is there anything else you'd like to order or will that be all?"

"Just that you be consistent. I have sharp ears, you know," Joseph noted in amusement. He smiled a little, "I could hear you bantering with the Chef all the way from here. I'd prefer that you be yourself around me. It's a lot less confusing."

He chuckled a little, "Humans are the only animals that can act."
